A WIP to share. I am just thrilled with this. The yarn, Sherlock, is a discontinued yarn from ArtFibers. I used to work around the corner from the store in San Francisco. The material is an extrafine merino silk blend, handpainted. It has a delicate, tube structure – very unusual. I’ve never seen anything like it anywhere. I have hoarded two balls of the yarn for ages – over five years. I swatched SO many patterns and found nothing that worked. Then I happened upon the Lyerka pattern by Kenny Chua for Lorna’s Laces. I got it free from Purl Soho when I bought some Lorna’s Laces. I knew immediately the diagonal lace was perfect for Sherlock. I cast on that night and am now halfway done. The pattern highlights the texture and color shifts in the yarn beautifully. It will be a fabulous scarf for spring, fall and winter for me to wear to work when I want a more elegant look.
Do you have any stories of long saved yarn, just waiting for the right pattern?
