Today was such a great day! I opened up my mail to find this awesome skirt from my dear friend Dazzlynn. She sewed it up herself from the Titus 6 gored skirt pattern. I love it!! It fits well, is very comfortable, and remarkably, a perfect foil for my new stockings. What an awesome birthday present!
The stockings are from the Knitting Lingerie Style book, by Joan McGowen-Michael. I used Debbie Bliss Prima, which I would not use again (though I do plan a matching bolero with yarn I’ve already purchased). Too many knots, and the content (80% bamboo and 20% wool) made any joins very, VERY difficult to conceal.
I made the feet too big, as apparently I usually do on socks. I guess I take the directions too literally, and need to conduct my length measurements with the sock stretched the way I think I will wear it. I also have not mastered that elusive art of making socks that are the same size. It’s very slightly different, but when I switched to the larger needles for the calf part, I switched too early on one pair. Thus, the lace opened up more and it’s a little too big. I definitely need to sew in elastic – these started sagging after I took three steps.
I really liked the toe-up construction. And I loved the biasing on the lace – how it spirals up the leg. Just beautiful. I have now completed three projects from this book, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. I have had fit challenges with everything, which has only taught me more about knitting for my body type. I am tall, and I need to be ready to modify patterns and take accurate measurements. The patterns are so clearly written that I am able to figure out where I need to add length or width to fit me.
And this completes my first Socktoberfest project! I will be at Rhinebeck on Saturday, possibly wearing this skirt and stockings if I can get the elastic in before then. Hope everyone planning on attending has a wonderful time!
