I ditched suits, silk scarves, leather shoes, housewares. I still have more to get rid of, but we needed the space in the storage unit before the wedding. I had to dump the clothing into a huge vat at the store – as the clothes came cascading out of the bags, I realized that I had ALREADY forgotten about most of them.
In looking at my housewares, I’m trying really hard to only keep stuff I want right now, and not what may or may not be useful in the future. I don’t know if you can see in the photo, but I got rid of a huge metal colander that I never used. I bought it because I come from a family of six, and every time I used to make pasta, I would make a 1lb box of it and need a big strainer. I haven’t lived with six people since… probably around 1992.
We went to the big Goodwill store on San Pablo. They were in the midst of remodeling this summer, and this weekend was the grand re-opening. There was a raffle, lots of balloons and people celebrating. The store looked great. Some of the prices seemed to be a little high, hmmm…. but for the most part, a huge, well-organized presentation. Very tempting, but after unloading an entire car load of stuff, the last thing I wanted was more stuff.
