I made this recipe from the King Arthur Flour cookbook last night. It’s a very high fiber wheat bread, with iron and other nutrients ideal for a new mother. I added golden California raisins and chopped dried apricots. It called for wheat flour, wheat bran, and wheat germ! It’s very healthy, but tastes good too, which is great. I’m giving it to a new mother tonight with some homemade, low-sugar jam. It’s always a little daring to prepare a new recipe as a gift. I have a lot of faith in the KAF cookbook though, so that reassured me as I bought my supplies.
I really enjoy baking on Sunday nights. Something about making a bread, casserole, or dessert to start my week off really feels comforting to me. Kind of like I’m taking one teeny step towards ensuring I have something good to fuel myself with during the week.
I also froze a big bag of blueberries this weekend, and plan to freeze more while they’re so inexpensive. Does anyone have any good methods for freezing cherries?
