Most of my jewelry was given to me by parents or friends. I’ve very rarely chosen something for myself and purchased it. It just always seems like such an extravagence. I need to organize better the things I do have. gave me a great idea for a display for brooches which I fully intend to make in the next day or two. There must be a fine line between having your jewelry out so you can see it, wear it, and enjoy it all the time, and keeping it all in jewelry boxes so they stay dust free, reduce tarnishing, and don’t become damaged. I tend to forget about stuff I put away in my jewelry box.
I found these two treasures recently. one is a 1950s red bakelite necklace that I loved as soon as I put it on. The other is a cameo that I am guessing is 1910-1930s. The vendor told me it was victorian, but the open scrollwork to me looks art deco, which is why I would date it a little later. I originally was going to buy another cameo that was a little larger, but this one just won me over with the positive/negative space.
