I finished an elf hat from Handknit Holidays this weekend as a late gift for a very crafty friend. It came out a little more dense than I wanted, but I hope the recipient can use it. It was raining too much this morning to get a good photo, but the girls didn’t mind being photographed inside! I knit both of their hats yesterday from leftover yarn. On the left, the as-yet-nameless Merry Skier a simple wool beanie. On the right, Agatha has my interpretation of the Elf Hat for her size! I can already think of some modifications I’d make for the next one. I pretty much copied the adult pattern, and just scaled it down. I was wondering – when I come up with better mods (more ribbing, less depth, slightly smaller to make it stretch more), would it be okay to write up my pattern for other dolly knitters? Or, since I based it off of a published adult pattern, would that be a copyright violation which I have no wish to do?
