I haven’t had a chance yet to write about Bead Simple, Susan Beal’s newly released book of jewelry making. I am lucky enough to be one of the guest designers, and my review of the book will be posted (with a giveaway of a copy of the book!) to Supernaturale. For PaperDollyGirl.com, however, I have a special guest blogger who acted as an on-site reporter for the big Bead Simple book signing and demo at Powell’s. This intrepid journalist is none other than my dear ol’ dad! Photos are also taken by him and show Susan at the event and the earrings he made.
The Bead Simple event at Powell’s book store in downtown Portland Oregon was well attended, by over 50 interested beaders with standing room only for late comers. Susan introduced six of the contributing authors who modeled their creations for the receptive audience. After Susan’s talk on style and craft approach which made everyone feel comfortable, she gave a demo on the construction of a pair of earrings. Susan provided all the tools (20 sets) and all the material so no one needed to pass on the craft part of the event. I made a pair of simple yet elegant bead earrings. I found Susan’s book very helpful as I followed the steps on page 20. I would recommend the book and certainly recommend Powell’s as a must when you visit Portland Oregon.- JFM
